There is something so delicious and special about the Farmer's Market.
I nearly forget until I visit again,
and then I remember why I love it there.
Something about the smell of fresh, good food,
real and raw and colorful, a feast to see,
all of that lined up and lovely and
so perfectly imperfect with dents and variety of colors and sizes, every basket so mixed and diverse even if they're all the same kind of food, like tomatoes. So authentic, and not like those bloated foods made to look big, colorful, and strong but lose their uniqueness along the way.
The bustle, live music, farmers saying hello, people drifting and mingling and tasting and seeing. There's something so sweet about it, even if it's just food lined up in rows being bought.
Something more.
And I think it's the authenticity. Something harmonious (and maybe I sound like a hippie but I sure don't mind) and honest and colorful. I can never quite touch the feeling I get, but I know it's good and I know I love it. Strolling through is so relaxing and refreshing and rich. It's all so simple and somehow rare.
Also, something in me has longed to photograph it for quite a while. I went there today (as if you couldn't tell) and I just get an itch, a longing to capture all those trays and smiles and styles. Someone else was there, a man with a camera, and I so wanted to watch him, and this is so cheesy to say but I felt a connection with him, knowing he wanted to capture it and see it all too. It's not as though he noticed me once or I actually know anything technical or much about photography, but somehow, now that I've started (proudly) to feel like a photographer, I almost feel this heightened sense that notices someone else is taking pictures around me. It's like a kindred spirit thing. But really, it's not as though I'm much good at it.
And yes I am so aware that this is such a rambling, bumbling post. But that's the mood I'm in.
So there is a not-very-well-articulated spiel on why I love the Farmer's Market.
(And someday, I really hope to have a post with pictures from one.)
